How to make a Cat Doorknob Toy

This cat toy is designed to hang on a doorknob for individual play, but can also be held by hand for interactive play. Or you can let Kitty play however she wants!
You will need:

  • White Polar Fleece – 12” x 4” (30.5cm X 10cm)
  • Felt Remnant each in the following colors: Black, Pink, Red, Green
  • 1 1/3 yards (1.22m) each of 5/8” (1.5cm) wide Grosgrain Ribbon in the following colors: Red, Green
  • 2 yards (1.83m) of 1/4” (6mm) wide Elastic
  • 3 Small Jingle Bells
  • Three 1/2” (1.3cm) Pom-Poms
  • Remnant of Gold Baby Rick Rack Trim
  • For Mouth and Whiskers: Black Fabric Marker OR Black Fabric Paint
  • Remnant of ribbon
  • Fabric or Craft Glue
  • Handful of Poly Fiberfill
  • Handful of Catnip

Instructions:
1. Cut the red and green grosgrain each into two 24” (60cm) long pieces. Pin the two red ribbons together, and the two green ribbons together. Edge-stitch along each long edge, forming one red tube and one green tube.
2. Feed one end of elastic through each ribbon tube, using a safety pin to help slide the elastic through. Stitch the bottoms of the ribbon tubes to the elastic.
3. Fold elastic in half, forming a 3” (7.5cm) loop at the top. Bunch up and slide the ribbon down the elastic about 4” (10cm) below the loop.
4. Cut two cat heads of white fleece. Place one on top of the other and pin in place. Edge-stitch them together, leaving two 1” (2.5cm) openings.
5. Cut cat eyes from black felt, and cat nose, tongue and inner ears from pink felt. Glue in place on cat face as shown. Draw or paint mouth and whiskers.
6. Slide elastic loop through bottom of head, exiting at the top. Lightly stuff with fiberfill. Pin and stitch the openings closed – make sure you secure the ribbons in the stitching at the bottom opening, enclosing the raw edges.
7. Cut two trees of green felt and two bells of red felt. Edge-stitch them together, leaving a small opening at the bottom of each for stuffing. Fill each with catnip. Stitch openings closed. Embellish tree and bell with rick rack, pom-poms and jingle bells.
8. Fold over raw edges of elasticized ribbons and glue or hand tack the red ribbon to the back of the tree, and the green ribbon to the back of the bell.
9.Tie a small bow from the ribbon and glue or hand tack to the bottom of the cat face neck, as shown. Stitch a jingle bell to the center of the bow.
